What collaborating looks like

Everyone types into the same file. Edits appear for your teammates as you make them.

How it works

01 / Share

Start from a folder you already have.

Choose a local folder, review the files Tether will share, and confirm. Leave anything out with a .tetherignore file.

02 / Invite

Bring your people in.

Invite teammates by their Tether username. Members can edit; Observers can follow along without changing anything.

03 / Build

Work in your own copy, in sync.

Each person gets the files on their own computer. Edits, new files, renames and deletions stay in sync while you're connected.

In the extension today

Everything happens
in your editor.

  • Live editing. Shared text edits with teammates' cursors and selections.
  • Presence. Explorer badges show which files teammates have open.
  • Working areas. See the function or class each teammate is in. Shown by default; turn them off with Tether: Hide Collaborator Symbols or in Settings.
  • Comments. Discuss a line, reply, and resolve the thread when it's settled.
  • Shared files. Text and binary files, including new files, renames and deletions.
  • Access. Hosts invite Members to edit and Observers to view, and can change roles later.

Browser preview

A look from
your browser.

The VS Code extension is the released product. A browser workspace is being built separately and is available as an early preview. It may change or be unavailable, so use the extension for real work.

About the project

Made by students,
for teams.

Tether is built by a team of students as part of DECO3801 at The University of Queensland. It is a student project, not a product of or endorsed by the university, and it is still early: expect rough edges, and keep your own backups of work that matters.
